Rumba Nova Part 1
This is the first part of a Rumba that I wrote recently and perform often. It is in the Rumba style which is a flamenco form of medium to slow pace characterized by a 3 – 3 – 2 pattern. This pattern is strummed in a certain way to bring out the accents on beats 1 4 and 6 = that is 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8.
I interplay a melody in A minor in between the Rumba accompaniment. I also utilize slurs (pull-offs and hammer-ons) to create flow and speed. The chord progression also uses a Circle of Fifths sequence = Dm – G – C – F – Bm7b5 – E7 which is very common in Latin guitar styles and worth knowing.
